Are
you LinkedIn?
By: Lida Pinkham, CIASTD VP for Technology
Did you know CIASTD
has a group on LinkedIn? LinkedIn groups can be a great resource
for members. Discussion forums allow
you to interact with other members by asking questions or sharing
your expertise and knowledge in response to someone else’s
question. The most recent discussion on the CIASTD group relates
to those using Articulate and Captivate.
Are you looking for a job? Or looking for a potential employee?
The Job Board is for you! You can post open job positions here
for free.
Have news to share or read an interesting article on the web?
Post a link to a web page and share that news with other members.
The News feature even allows members to share their thoughts
on a particular posted news article.
CIASTD’s LinkedIn group was created in August of 2009
and currently has 67 members and growing every week. Why don’t
you join us?! We’d love to have you! It may be that you
get LinkedIn with more than just the people you know in the chapter,
but also the contacts you NEED to know to help you grow your
career and/or business. A link to the CIASTD group page is available
on the CIASTD web site (http://ciastd.org), or you can search
LinkedIn groups for CIASTD.

Delivered Wherever You Are
Learning Across Generations: Online Training for a Changing
Workforce
Presenter: Linda Uli, WebEx
Date: March 17
Time: 12-1 PM
Cost: $15 members/$25 non-members
Over the next 10-20 years, most organizations
will have up to five generations working together. A 2008 Brandon
Hall Research
Center report, "Training Across Generations," demonstrates
how each generation digests information in different ways.
As you develop training programs for your organization, how
do you maximize learning effectiveness for all your employees—whatever
their age and generation?
Learn proven techniques to:
- Use a
multi-generational style to reach audiences of all ages
- Match
learning styles with effective online activities
- Analyze
how people learn – both as individual or as a team

“You
gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience
in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do
the thing which you think you cannot do.” - - Eleanor Roosevelt
If you keep doing
what you’ve always done, you will continue
to get what you’ve always gotten. Expansion includes risk
and trying something new. Because the fear of failure so often
holds individuals back, it’s important to remember it is
through your perceived “failures” you learn the most.
I recently observed
my seven year old in her first theater performance in front
of an audience. We had practiced all week, and she had
delivered it several times with confidence and enthusiasm. As
she took the stage for the performance, I could see her little
hands shaking and her lip quivering. She started to speak. Everyone
could see she was petrified and, at any moment, could break into
tears; yet, she kept going. She delivered the entire performance,
going through all of the motions, walking back and forth across
the stage. She fought through the fear and performed. Her courage
brought cheers from the crowd, and I learned a valuable leadership
lesson — growth comes by pushing yourself out of your comfort
zone and taking a risk. While it might not be pretty, the vulnerability
and the courage has great influence on others.

Title: Designing Learning to Target All Generations
Speaker: Panel Discussion
Time is precious. Dollars are limited. Your student base spans multiple generations
and multiple learning styles. Some say their needs are completely different.
Others say they have more in common than we think. How do you choose what tools
and technologies to use when providing instruction to students ranging from
those about to retire to those new to the workforce? Attend the CIASTD panel
discussion - "Designing Learning to Target All Generations" - and
learn how to provide the greatest impact while making the best use of your
time and resources.

Title: Using Conflict Creatively
Speaker: Karen Valencic, Spiral Impact
Lou Holtz once said, "Life is ten percent what happens to
you and ninety percent how you respond to it." Easy to remember
when times are good. Not so easy when you are in the midst of
challenge and conflict. Yet, innovation requires conflict and
performance peaks when challenged. Attend "Using Conflict
Creatively" and learn how you can make the most effective
use of difficult times. All students will receive information
on how to use "Spiral Impact" and will walk away with
two learning aids to aid in bringing teams or groups of people
together.

Title: The Power of 3: Master the Art of Persuasion by Applying
Three Different Perspectives
Speaker: Scott Roberts, Accordance
Increase your influence by using techniques from "The Power
of 3," presented by Accordence. This presentation will boost
your powers of persuasion and influence by teaching how to apply
and integrate three different perspectives to issues you face.
The 3 Influence Perspectives, rooted in philosophy and psychological
research, are the mindsets through which we "see" the
world. People who are most effective at resolving differences
are adept at viewing the world from all three:
- First Person
(advocating one's own needs)
- Second
Person (acknowledging others' point of view)
- Third
Person (observing objectively to seek what is reasonable
and fair).
