Giving
Thanks
I cannot believe this
is my last President’s Pen article! It’s hard
to believe my presidency is coming to an end—what a whirlwind year we’ve
had. I find myself looking back over the last 11 months, to all we’ve done
together, and feeling….happy, tired, satisfied, but mostly grateful for
the many people who gave their time, ideas, and energy to make this chapter so
strong.
The Communications committee made sure the website was updated
and engaging. They provided you with this newsletter each month,
and they promoted all our monthly programs and special events
throughout Indianapolis. Team, thanks for helping to get the
word out about CIASTD!
The Membership
committee gave us reason to spend our VIP bucks each month
with live auctions, and I know next month’s
Holiday Program will see some heated bidding action! The New
Member Orientations ensured our newest members felt welcome
and good about choosing CIASTD. Team, thanks for being the
chapter’s ambassador!
The Special
Events committee gave us two conferences like we’ve never seen before. We focused on networking and
personal development in August then turned our attention to
the future of training in November. They pushed us to go green,
go online, go play, and then go give back! They reignited our
passion for “new and different” and to look ahead,
not back. Team, thanks for putting the “special” back
in CIASTD’s events!
The Programs
committee lined up a popular calendar of monthly programs
which saw
our attendance and customer satisfaction
numbers increase! They coordinated our speakers to make our
programs support the CPLP competency model. They moved us to
a new venue which kept costs down while making it a little
more convenient for many to attend. When speakers arrived late
or without their presentations, they didn’t skip a beat
and kept us all thinking things were “smooth sailing.” Team,
thanks for giving us great reasons to keep getting together
every month!
CPLP Study Groups continue to happen and more members are
lining up to get certified. This effort takes many volunteers
to facilitate the groups, and our chapter and industry benefit
greatly from this effort. Team, thanks for partnering to support
the continued strength of our profession!
MP Records,
you’ve made it all come together and supported
these groups in their quest for “bigger, better, faster.” You
take our requests and feedback daily and make it work. Thanks
for being the Velcro of the chapter!
The CIASTD
Board is one of the most dynamic boards I’ve
seen. We’ve had passionate discussions, energetic retreats,
and general silliness at times. I have enjoyed it all and learned
so much from each of you. As I turn it all over to Andrea Moore
in 2009, I know you’ll be in great hands, and you’ll
continue to inspire and deliver! Team, what can I say? Thank
you, thank you, thank you.
And finally,
our members!!! Thank you for all your support—for
coming to our programs, reading our newsletters, volunteering
to help, sponsoring our events, and for simply renewing your
memberships. We do it all for you!!!!
Happy Holidays to all!

We are excited to announce the CIASTD membership has

will include the following:

There is a lot of synergy and enthusiasm within the board as we

their service on the board, and we welcome three new board members
to the leadership team:
-
Jennifer
Taylor, VP of Certification and Professional Development,
will continue to build upon the CPLP study groups and resources
for
chapter member to support professional development. Jennifer
is a Learning and Development Specialist at RCI and has
been the cornerstone
of the CPLP study group this year. Her continual positive attitude,
follow-through and commitment to learning and development will
support her success on the board.

Cheryl
Alfred, VP of Finance, will help to ensure that the board
takes more responsibility for the financial management

board position. In this strategic position, Lida is responsible for
defining how we can leverage technology to support the chapter’s
success. From the organization’s website to the use of technology
for the delivery of educational programs for our members, Lida will
work closely with other board positions, our website vendor, and
association management firm to ensure we are making the most effective
use of technology. Lida is currently an IT Trainer at Bakers and
Daniels and has a strong background in the leadership of technology
efforts.

Profile - Nancy Dickerson |
Name:
Nancy Dickerson
Company: Strategic Sales Development
Position: Co-Owner
Employed Since: 2008
In Training & Development Since: 2004
Describe your position at your current employer . . .
As co-owner of a start-up sales training consultant company,
I do everything. Instructional design, networking, prospecting,
sales, coaching, and facilitation. My partner is on the west
coast so we share the workload in all aspects of the company.
What I love doing most in my job is when I . . .
Assist sales professionals achieve the success they are looking
for in their careers. I bring new ideas or a new way of looking
at their approach to accelerate their results and make better
connections with their clients.
The thing I like most about working in Training and Development
is . . .
learning with people in a professional environment and providing
an avenue to apply those skills immediately. Knowledge is Power
but Applied Knowledge is Powerful!
The book I read most recently for work is . . .
Use Both Sides of Your Brain; New Mind Mapping Techniques by
Plume
The book I read most recently for pleasure is . . .
Odd Hours by Dean Koontz What I did before I worked for my current employer was . . .
Worked in the Office Products field for 32 years.
Describe your childhood and educational experiences . . .
I excelled in high school after my Freshman year. I always loved
school, especially math. Memorization of numbers is very easy
for me…I'm one of those people that don't have to look
up phone numbers!
Describe your family. . .
I have my wonderful husband, Steve, who was my high school sweetheart.
We have two amazing sons. My oldest, Alex graduated college
this year with a double major and is planning on attending
law school next year. He is married to Brandy who also graduated
with honors this year both from Marian College. My youngest,
Evan is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice and plans on
becoming a law enforcement officer.
One of the times I felt the most success in my life was . . .
Personally it was the birth of my children. Professionally it
is now, starting my own business. That is something I never thought
I would achieve.
If I could do something I have never done before it would be
. . .
Start a foundation for the mentally ill. That is a VERY personal
issue for me and there needs to be more support for those with
mental illness.
If you really knew me you would know . . .
be surprised how much I know about sports and love talking and
watching sports.
