Sponsorships & Slating
Updates
I’ve had a few conversations with chapter members recently who were pleasantly
surprised to learn how many sponsorship and advertising opportunities we offer.
Clearly, we could be doing more to advertise these opportunities ourselves!
You can
sponsor all chapter materials for an entire year, have a
display booth at a monthly program, take out a banner advertisement
in our monthly newsletter, or donate a single VIP-bucks auction
item. Attendance has increased by approximately 15-20 percent
this year at our monthly programs, and membership survey
results tell us participation and interest is up for our
website and newsletters. We’ve added a few new options,
including an event ad which can be posted for a full month
in the What’s New section of every main page within
our website. What great ways to get your company’s
name out there!
Our special
events such as the upcoming Fall Education Conference in
November and Holiday Program in December are unique opportunities
to advertise to a larger or more targeted audience as well.
If you have a sponsorship or advertisement idea which is
not our list, please let us know! We recognize many of our
members are also vendors, and we want to partner with our
vendors in a way that’s meaningful and valuable to
all.
For detailed
information on all the ways you can promote your company’s
services and expertise to our 400+ members, go to our website
(www.ciastd.org)
and click Sponsorships, located just underneath the main
menu in the upper right corner.
Finally,
I just wanted to let everyone know we’ve completed
the initial slating process for our three open CIASTD board
positions. We received more applicants for this year’s
open positions than ever before—and all the applicants
we interviewed were strong, qualified people with positive
energy, new perspectives, and lots of experience. We had
some tough decisions to make. We searched for board members
and found a few directors as well!
I am thrilled
there is so much interest in the future of our chapter, and
I thank everyone for applying or even inquiring about the
open board or director-level positions! Look for your chance
to review and vote on the entire slate in the coming weeks.
With new people in new roles such as VP of Technology and
Director of Online Programs, I can’t wait to see how
our website and program offerings evolve and become more
robust and interactive. Sign me up!

Monthly Meeting: The Challenge of Learning Transfer: From
Training to Job Performance |
CIASTD
October Meeting
Friday, October 24, 2008
Program
Description:
For
those concerned with learning and development in organizations today,
transfer of training is the paramount concern. In this session, Professor
Baldwin will make the case that training effectiveness is a key competitive
advantage for firms, but that effectiveness ultimately hinges on the
extent to which learners transfer learning from training experiences
to application in their work. Building on his over twenty years of
studying transfer issues, Professor Baldwin will dispel some persistent
myths and focus on the actionable ways in which training designers
can influence positive transfer. Also, taking a cue from the current
rage in medical education, he will review some select transfer research
findings and implore us to avoid the “knowing-doing gap” and
be more evidence-based in our own design and practice. Finally, in
an effort to achieve some transfer of his own short talk, he will end
with a magical conclusion.
Learning
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should:
- Understand
and be able to articulate the business case for (and thus the allocation
of significant organizational resources to) learning that transfers.
- Recognize
the critical gaps between what we know about maximizing transfer
and what we actually do.
- Be
aware of the most recent research evidence related to training
transfer and the implications of those findings for designing and
implementing learning initiatives that transfer.

Speaker:

T. Baldwin is the Eveleigh Professor of Business Leadership at the
Indiana University Kelley School of Business where he is also the Faculty
Director of the Leadership Development Institute (LDI) and Co-Director
