By: Andrea Moore, CIASTD 2009 President
For me the new year always brings a renewed sense of opportunity. As I serve as CIASTD president in 2009, I notice that our group’s enthusiasm seems to be even greater than in most years. An Albert Einstein quote resonates with this emotion: “I feel that you are justified in looking into the future with true assurance, because you have a mode of living in which we find the joy of life and the joy of work harmoniously combined. Added to this is the spirit of ambition which pervades your very being, and seems to make the day's work like a happy child at play.” Thank you, Albert, for justifying my enthusiasm! Because this is my first president’s pen, I have thought a lot about what short sentiments I might write. I sense not many people read these messages, so I am going with bullet points and am emphasizing key bits of information. During each of my president’s pen messages, I will focus on these four areas:
I look forward to a year of abundance, learning, and growth. If I have not met you, please introduce yourself at an upcoming event. No doubt we will find a connection or common interest as we talk. With enthusiasm. Andrea is a senior consultant at FlashPoint, a multidiscipline HR consulting firm in Indianapolis. As a certified professional in learning and performance and a certified empowerment coach, she focuses on the growth and development of individuals, work teams, and leaders.

Brian Lusk, 2009 President-Elect At the December Holiday Program, CIASTD awarded two members who had gone above and beyond in their service to the chapter in 2008. Martie Hoofer was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award. The Rookie of the Year Award is given to a committee member in their first year of active service to the chapter. Martie has the behind the scenes job of editing The Facilitator – the wonderful monthly newsletter for CIASTD members which you are currently reading. “Martie took up the newsletter editor position immediately after joining CIASTD and has stayed on top of it completely,” says Michelle Burke, VP of Communications. “She has gone above and beyond many times to get information to me, ask for articles, write them herself and so on.” Lesley MacKellar was awarded the President’s Award. The President’s Award is given to an active board or committee member for exceptional service in the current year. Lesley has served as the Chairperson of the Programs Committee for the last two years. In her role, Lesley is instrumental in identifying and selecting speakers for the monthly programs. “I can always count on her to do what is needed, when it is needed; she never misses a beat”, says Lee Ann Flick, former VP of Programs. “She has been an absolute joy to work with over the past two years – I couldn’t have run programs without her.” Lesley will continue to serve CIASTD as the newly created Director of Monthly Programs. Unlike the Oscars, CIASTD does not publicly recognize their nominees; however, here are a few volunteers we feel went above and beyond in 2008:
Though we cannot thank everyone individually in this forum – I hope all the past, present, and future CIASTD volunteers know how much they are appreciated and know we would not be where we are now without their efforts. If you are interested in volunteering for a committee, please contact Tara Holloway, VP for Volunteer Coordination at ciastd@mprecords.com.
